About the Species:
Apostasia wallichii or the Wallich’s apostasia is a fairly common terrestrial type of orchid. It is a small to large sized orchid with an often branching stem carrying several, dark green, close set, narrowly linear-lanceolate, grass-like, acuminate leaves. It has an erect to horizontal pendulous, few branched flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers. This species prefers evergreen, humid, primary forests in humus rich soils. On the other hand, A. wallichii is endemic in Asia and in Australia. In MHRWS, this species is found from the lowland to montane forests. They are commonly observed anchored on the ground in the dry area of soil.
