About the Species:
Phapitreron brunneiceps is a medium sized brown dove characterized with its brown head and glossy reddish-violet patch on side of neck. This species is found only in Mindanao and Basilan. Generally, its population is undergoing a continuing rapid decline due to continued reduction in forest cover within its range. It is currently assumed to have a small population and its becoming severely fragmented thus IUCN Red List on Threatened Species categorized P. brunneiceps as Vulnerable. Locally this is known as Limukon and likewise frequently hunted for food and pet. In Mount Hamiguitan Wildlife Sanctuary, it is found in lowland secondary to montane forests.
