About the Species:
Phapitreron amythestinus is a brown dove characterized by large bill, obvious white ear line and with violet upper back. It is the largest dove found to occur in forest and forest edge but relatively prefers mid to high elevations from 500 to 2000 meters above sea level. It generally prefers secondary and primary forests in Luzon, Samar, Leyte, Negros, Cebu and Mindanao islands. Locals commonly call this bird as limukon or alimukon. Currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN Red list of Threatened Species however this species is frequently hunted for food, pet and even for trade.
