About the Species:
Macroglossus minimus or the Dagger-tooth Fruit Bat is a species of megabat characterized by having reddish-brown fur on the back but is paler on the abdomen. The front body length is shorter than the back. It has a long tongue which is designed for thrusting into the nectar of the angiosperms (flowering trees). This is endemic in Southeast Asia particularly in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. It inhabits in primary and secondary tropical moist forests but also occurs in mangroves, swamp forests, rural gardens and urban areas. In MHRWS, this species is found from lowland to secondary dipterocarp forest.
