About the Species:
Staurois natator or the rock frog is a small to moderate-sized frog characterized by having pointed snout and slender, flattened body shape. Its tympanum is distinct and dorsal body color is dark green to black with scattered spots. Their limbs are long with rounded and expanded toe tips. S. natator is endemic in Southeast Asia particularly in the Philippines and in Borneo. In the Philippines, it is observed in Palawan, Leyte, Bohol, Basilan, Busuanga, Culion, Samar islands and Mindanao. Recorded from several studies, this species inhabits in clear, small, rocky streams and large rivers in primary and secondary forests. In MHRWS, this species is found from lowland to mossy forest. They are commonly seen in the rocks near and on the streams. Others are observed in the leaves and branches of plants near the streams.
