About the Species:
Megoprhys stejnegeri or the Mindanao horned toad is a small to medium-sized toad characterized by having a prominent pointed dermal projection on its upper eyelids. It has a broad head with truncated snout. Fingers and toe tips are rounded with basal webbing. M. stejnegeri is endemic in the Philippines particularly in Basilan, Biliran, Bohol, Dinagat, Leyte, Samar, and many parts of Mindanao. Recorded from several studies, this species inhabits ground and riparian microhabitats specifically streams and forest floor in primary and secondary montane as well as in lowland rainforests. In MHRWS, this horned toad is found from lowland to montane forests. They are commonly seen in leaf litter in the ground and in rocks near and on the streams.
